Sand sharks (dogfish) ARE on the protected list. One thing to remember when a species is listed as protected or endangered: just because it may seem there are plenty where you are located, it does not mean the rest of the United States (or world) have the same numbers of that species. For example, many fisherman say there are a lot of sand sharks where they fish; however, this is NOT true outside the Cape Ann area! There is now a limit on the amount of sand sharks commercial fisherman can take from the Ocean. At this time, there is not a limit on the amount recreational fisherman take; please do NOT wound or kill any fish that will not be eaten (Shark Alliance) 10/6/08 You don't need live bait to catch fish. At Ippi's, Check out the 8.33 lb Large Mouth Bass caught (released) in Sluice on artificial bait. Make bait look appetizing- make it move & look wounded. Live bait is easier- especially if going with kids & they have to catch something. Cast it out & leave it; live bait does all the work. BUT, it is definitely more fun when you catch fish using articial bait; YOUR work caught fish! Remember: don't waste a fish life- release alive, even if it isn't the breed you hoped to catch (e.g. Sunfish, etc.). 10/16/08 Stocked fish don't generally feed right after being placed in their new habitat (e.g. pond, stream, etc.). They will spend a few days adjusting to their new habitat. 10/24/08 |
